Biography

Douglas Mullen is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art & Design, specialising in Communication Design for industry. In a professional career, encapsulating the wide spectrum of commercial design and personal enterprise, Douglas has over a decade of engagement within the Scottish education sector with notable experience in the dissemination of design practice and design methodologies. He has extensive professional experience within the US design and publishing sector where his practice base has been utilised by companies such as; Harper Collins, Time Magazine and Business week.

His recent research and practice has resonance with both product design and commercial enterprise. A desire for excellence within the craft of bespoke instrument design has reinvigorated a long interest in ergonomics, body dynamics and the process of working and experimenting with new materials and construction techniques. This has resulted in commercial activity in the design and manufacturing of instruments for professional markets.

His appointed role within the college has a focus on teaching and scholarship, including the review and reporting upon teaching & learning practices and programme development within the college.
