I joined the University of Dundee in 1992 as an Engineering Technician in the Civil Engineering Department, having previously been involved in all diverse aspects of mechanical/fluid engineering most of my working life. I am a qualified Tool/Instrument Maker and completed my apprenticeship training in 1971.

In 1973 I was promoted within the same Industry as a trainee Production Engineering manager and had spells in the Design offices and Personnel departments until 1985. It was during this time that I actively formed an interest and desire to try to help colleagues healthily interact within stressful factory environments and co-exist. In those days industrial disputes requiring tactful diplomacy (mediation) and were not uncommon.

My personal interests over many years motivated me to extend my structured understanding of conflict/behaviour and spend four years studying Human Relations and Counselling Skills as a part-time student at evening classes within the University.

The Early Dispute Resolution (EDR) initiative within the University seemed to be a natural extension of my quest to understand and ease workplace and personal conflict, and I was extremely pleased to have the opportunity to gain a place and complete the training with the Catalyst partnership to be an accredited mediator . I have now  been a mediator since 2008 and have been privileged to be part of such an excellent team which recognises and provides avenues of support for interactive workplace challenges and stresses which may occasionally occur.
