Biography

David is Course Tutor for the module at CAIS. He is a chartered Library and Information Professional and a member of the British Computer Society and the Information and Records Management Society. He was on the BSI committees for records management and for metadata. He is also an active member of ISKO UK and has been involved in their events programme.

David has worked in all parts of the library, information and records management sectors as a researcher, project manager and management consultant. He had devised taxonomies, classification schemes and file plans as well as advising on procurement and deployment of document and records management systems. He also advises on metadata standards, information retrieval, and information governance. He has extensive international experience having worked in: United States, Middle East, China, and many parts of Africa as well as throughout Europe and the UK

His book on "Metadata for Information Retrieval and Management" (Facet Publications, 2004 ­ new edition due in 2016) provides an overview of metadata issues and an understanding of the way in which it can be used to improve retrieval and management of information resources. It covers the basic concepts that underpin metadata and makes the connection between library and information skills such as cataloguing and metadata management.

David holds a PhD in Information Science from City University London where he teaches Information Management and Policy. His current research interests include metadata, taxonomy, information governance and social networks. He manages the LinkedIn group LIS Research Methods, and he writes an occasional blog.
