Biography
Amanda's core values of equality, equity, justice, and respect have led her to build a career based on integrity, clarity and an ambitious desire to help people access opportunities and develop themselves.
While still at university Amanda began her legal career as a tutor and went on to become a lecturer before completing her training to become a solicitor. Amanda was the first solicitor to be accredited in both incapacity and mental disability law and in mental health law.
Amanda's willingness to talk about issues and ask questions that others won't is a perspective that she has brought and continues to bring to a variety of paid and volunteer roles.
As an SCVO Policy Committee member and chair of mental health and diversity of thought charities she has used her skills and experience to support organisations and policy discussions in the third sector.
Amanda was the first open member of the LGBTQ+ community to be President of the Law Society of Scotland.
In addition to her role as Chair of Court at University of Dundee, receiving independent appointments relevant to her areas of specialty, working with individuals and organisations looking to embed inclusive values and practises, Amanda is also the independent chair of IoD Scotland's diversity and inclusion expert advisory group, Chair of Samaritans Scotland committee and trustee on Samaritans UK & Ireland Board.
