Alison Turton

Alison Turton graduated in History from the University of Cambridge and qualified in Archives Administration at University College London. Currently a freelance business archives and business history consultant, she was Head of Archives at The Royal Bank of Scotland from 1988 to 2017. Prior to 1988 Alison worked in archive and records management roles at Glasgow University, House of Fraser, the Business Archives Council and Babcock FKI. Her publications include The International Business Archives Handbook (2017); the business archives module for University of Liverpool’s distance learning archives and records management diploma (2001); Managing Business Archives (1991); and jointly with other authors a number of company histories and guides to the archives of the UK banking, brewing and pharmaceutical industries. Alison chaired the implementation group of the National Strategy for Business Archives in Scotland 2010-16. She sits on the executive committee of the Section on Business Archives of the International Council on Archives and is a Vice President of the Business Archives Council.
