Biography

Alessio Genco is a PhD student in Geotechnical Engineering at University of Dundee in School of Science and Engineering since April 2021. His PhD is funded by the industrial partnership SME (Sustainable Marine Energy) and ETP (Energy Technology Partnership) the Scottish academic research pool for energy. The PhD topic is focused on the understanding of design procedures for a novel rock anchoring system installed in offshore environment. This research project involves experimental rock mechanics, field testing and advanced numerical modelling.

Alessio received his BSc and MSc in civil engineering at the Politecnico di Bari in 2020. He carried out his master thesis at CNR di Bari (Centro Nazionale delle Ricerche) in partnership with Politecnico di Bari and University of Dundee on the analysis of brittle response of soft rocks by using a non-local constitutive model implemented in a commercial FE numerical code. He developed this topic during his Erasmus+ Placement at University of Dundee where he used this advanced constitutive model for rock applications.
