Using OPD

We strongly encourage conversations about training requirements to take place between line managers/ supervisors and staff. If you would like support with this, please see our Staff Development Guidelines, OSaR guidance or contact us by emailing OPD-Administrator@dundee.ac.uk

To help ensure that workshops run smoothly and that participants get the most out of them, we have created etiquette statements for our online  and classroom-based training sessions. We would ask that you please take a moment to familiarise yourself with this.

If you would like to suggest topics that you feel are not currently provided via self-directed learning or workshops, please feel free to leave a comment HERE for consideration. The password is Training

Dual Staff and Postgraduate Researcher Roles

If you are a staff member and a postgraduate researcher within the University of Dundee then you will have two OPD accounts – i.e. if you have both a staff ID number and a student matriculation number.

As some workshops on the programme are only open to specific audiences, you may need to be logged into a specific account to be able to complete the booking. If a workshop has the audience Postgraduate Researchers then you will need to be logged into your student account to book a space.

If you are struggling to login to either account then please refer to the ‘Access Your OPD Account’ section of this guide.

Missing Feedbacks in Training Record

We strongly encourage you provide feedback as this informs our ongoing and new provision. OPD no longer collate feedback via your OPD training account. Feedback is now collated using JISC online surveys, therefore, your OPD account will show missing evaluations but you will not be penalised for this.

Requests for Single Sign-On

Unfortunately, our booking system is separate to the University's other IT systems. Our training system is provided by Aspire and as such there is no simple process to link it with single sign-on.

This will be resolved with the implementation of the new system from Business Transformation.

How to Use the Booking System

Workshop bookings should be made through your OPD account. Please refer to the how-to guide on our website for full instructions making a booking.

When using your account for the first time, your username and password will be your staff ID number or student matriculation number. You must change your password when you first login.

Cancellation of Workshops

Self-Cancellation

Users are able to make cancellations via our online booking system up to 3 working days before a workshop.

If you wish to cancel a booking, please login to your account. When you are logged in at the top of the screen choose the training option, then choose 'view my applications'. On the next screen click the further details option (magnifying glass icon) for the workshop you are wishing to cancel. At the next screen, click the ‘red cross’ to withdraw your application and cancel your booking. You will be sent an automated email confirming your cancellation. This will not affect your future bookings.

Late Cancellation

If you wish to cancel a booking on a workshop less than three days before the scheduled date then you will no longer be able to self-cancel online.

In order to be recorded as excused, please ask your line manager/PhD Supervisor to email OPD@dundee.ac.uk to confirm the reason for your late cancellation. Without this confirmation you will be recorded as non-attended, which will affect your future bookings with OPD.
