12-hour volleyball marathon to bring about ‘spike’ in coffers

The University of Dundee’s volleyball club will this week be setting, serving, digging, spiking and blocking for 12 hours straight. Members will be holding a 12-hour marathon volleyball fundraiser at the University’s Institute of Sport & Exercise (ISE) from 8am-8pm on Friday, 20th March. The funds raised will be split between the club and Dundee Disability Sports Centre. DJCAD graduate wins £14,000 Fleming-Wyfold Bursary

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) graduate Edward Humphrey’s burgeoning career has been handed a massive boost after being named as the winner of the £14,000 Fleming-Wyfold Bursary. Edward was announced as the second recipient of the annual Fleming-Wyfold Bursary at the opening ceremony of this year’s Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) New Contemporaries exhibition. He will receive a bursary of £10,000, plus £4,000 production costs for the next year. Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) graduate Jamie Kunka has been named one of the three winners of this year’s £15,000 Sports Innovation Challenge. The Sports Innovation Challenge is a business development programme and competition, run by the University of Stirling, for entrepreneurial students and recent graduates across Scotland. Vitamin D not effective for lowering blood pressure

A wide-ranging review of clinical trial data led by researchers at the University of Dundee has found that the use of vitamin D to lower blood pressure is ineffective. In an article published online by JAMA Internal Medicine the research team led by Dr Miles Witham, of the School of Medicine at Dundee, conclude that vitamin D should not be used to treat hypertension or to lower blood pressure. A prestigious judging panel will bring expertise from all corners of the publishing industry to bear on this year’s Dundee International Book Prize.
