There are four choral scholarships available, which will normally be allocated to one Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass, although this may vary depending on number/quality of applications. A scholarship may be held for a single academic year.
The Scholar will be given free singing tuition during the academic year from Colette Ruddy.
The Stipend for the Scholarship will be £200 which will be payable in two instalments subject to satisfactory attendance and effort.
The Scholar’s duties will include:
- regular participation in at least one of the University choirs
- regular attendance at rehearsals and services at Dundee Parish Church (St. Mary’s). Rehearsals take place at 9.45am on a Sunday with the service following at 11.15am. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, if more than 2 Sundays are missed the honorarium will be reduced or, in extreme circumstances, the scholarship may be terminated.
The scholarships will be offered on the basis of an audition that will take place in week 2 of the first semester. The candidate will be required to sing two, short and contrasting pieces (which should be notified to the Director of Music in advance) and a short series of ear tests.
