Mode of delivery

This module will be delivered online. All module materials will be delivered via the VLE. Students will be assigned e-activities and discussion will be monitored via discussion boards by module team members with experience in supporting students at a distance. There will be real time virtual sessions.

Module aims

To give leaders, managers, supervisors, or aspiring leaders knowledge and skills to support mental health and create a working environment that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Module overview

On completion of this module student will have:

Knowledge and Understanding

  1. Gain a broad understanding of mental health
  2. Identify the key factors that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace
  3. Increase awareness of mental health issues in the workplace
  4. Develop skills to support staff who are experiencing mental ill health
  5. Know the responsibilities and role that managers and supervisors have in relation to mental health and wellbeing at work

Subject specific practical and intellectual skills

  • Understand and evaluate sources of information and advice for mental health and workplace responsibilities.

Transferable, employability and enterprise skills and attributes

  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise autonomy, accountability and leadership within the sphere of mental health in the workplace.
  • Evaluate the role of business, employers and managers in mental health and wellbeing promotion, support and inclusion.

Assessment strategy

  1. Participation in the online discussion forum activities which will be 800 words in total.
  2. A 10-minute multi-media presentation using PowerPoint and a virtual online learning platform – Collaborate. This presentation will be a critical discussion of how learning from the module will be applied in their workplace and will involve answering questions relating to the content.
