Mode of delivery

Online All module materials will be delivered via the VLE. Students will be assigned e-activities and discussion will be monitored via discussion boards by module team members with experience in supporting students at a distance. There will be real time virtual sessions.

Module aims

This module aims to equip health and social care staff with the skills and knowledge to help them deliver safe and effective care whilst ensuring that infection prevention and control is maintained at the highest level within their workplace.

Module overview

On completion of this module students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the key elements of infection prevention and control
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the chain of infection and how it can be broken to prevent the spread of infection
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of standard and transmission-based infection control precautions

Subject-specific practical and intellectual skills and attributes 

  • Implement and evaluate infection prevention and control practices    

Transferable employability and enterprise skills and attributes

Apply the knowledge, skills and understanding acquired from the module to their practice to ensure appropriate interventions to prevent and control infection are employed

Assessment strategy

The students will be required to submit a written report outlining an improvement they will make within their care setting to demonstrate achievement of the module outcomes.

Module eligibility requirements

Working in a Healthcare setting or for a healthcare organisation.
