This module builds on Teaching Across the Curriculum 1 and helps you to deepen and extend your understanding of key classroom learning and teaching approaches. It also covers the core pedagogies that support effective learning and teaching.

Through this module, you will gain confidence in classroom practice as you learn key teaching content, key pedagogies for effective teaching, and approaches to planning and assessment.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn core curricular content for the subject areas of Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Expressive Arts, and RME
  • explore and discuss core curricular policies and documents
  • learn key pedagogical approaches to learning and teaching to help you understand how to effectively teach key concepts within the primary classroom
  • learn how to apply your learning to create curricular plans

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand the principles of curriculum design and contexts for learning
  • plan coherent, progressive, and stimulating teaching programmes which match learners’ needs and abilities
  • use a range of teaching strategies and resources to meet the needs and abilities of learners
  • access and use appropriate professional literature relating to the primary curriculum

Active learning gives you a great chance to work collaboratively with your peers and form relationships with them. This is also more realistic and similar to the professional education environment. Your engagement in these tasks is critical to your development as a professional teacher. 

Most weeks have five to six contact hours that involve taught input. You are expected to devote approximately 20 hours per week to this module, although this is subject to personal need.
