Research and Development Skills module (BE31003)

This module is an introduction to the skills required in research and development in engineering. Students will be introduced to the processes in R&D projects as well as methods for the successful conception and completion of a project. This will include statistics and programming Python or R. Furthermore students will learn how to present research outputs and they will be introduced to potential issues related to intellectual property and ethics in R&D. Students will apply their knowledge in coursework assignments and during practical sessions.

Each year we have different projects with challenges to analyse a biomedical, engineering or medical device challenge. We illustrate the processes by discussing industrial scandals such as the recent one with Theranos.
