Module Aims

To develop knowledge and skills that will enable you to work at an advanced practice level, in the assessment, care and management of acutely/critically ill adults.

Module Overview

  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the relevant physiology and pathophysiology of acute medical and surgical conditions and emergencies
  • demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate the evidence related to the assessment, clinical investigations and management of acutely/critically ill adults
  • demonstrate the ability to apply advanced knowledge of the relevant physiology and pathophysiology underlying the assessment, clinical investigations and management of acutely/critically ill adults
  • critically apply and demonstrate effective decision-making, clinical judgement, and problem-solving skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate therapeutic interventions – autonomously or in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, as appropriate, and deal with new, complex problems as they arise
  • critically appraise and demonstrate effective teamwork and communication strategies necessary for ensuring safe, effective, person-centred care
