CM50159

The module aims to advance students’ skills as dental educators through exploration of their own teaching practice in relation to contemporary theory, principles and evidence which underpin effective teaching in the context of dentistry.

Credits are at level 11 of the SCQF (Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework). Each credit represents 10 notional hours of student work. All materials are available from day one of the module, including the assignment submission links. There is one formative and one summative assignment, and students are supported to plan their work accordingly.

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  1. Critically appraise the roles, responsibilities, skills and attributes of the clinical teacher in relation to current approaches to supporting learning in the Dental workplace.
  2. Critically appraise the practicality of theories and models of workplace learning in relation to clinical teaching and learning in the Dental context.
  3. Articulate a critical stance by reflecting upon your own planning, preparation and delivery of clinically focused teaching activities.
  4. Recommend practical measures to critically analyse and integrate key trends and evidence-based strategies into your clinical teaching in the Dental setting.
