This module aims to engage students in critical exploration of a research question. Through this they will develop skills in planning, undertaking and analysing research, making recommendations for applying their findings and future research.
By the end of this module, students should be able to:
- Develop and apply a literature search strategy
- Synthesize the literature into a coherent and critical account of the relevant published literature
- Critically select and apply method(s) to generate, collate and analyse research data
- Critically appraise key findings, including recognising weaknesses
- Present and defend the chosen methodology, analysis and conclusions
- Apply knowledge, skills and understanding in planning and executing a significant project of research, investigation or development
The Dissertation Module is an assessed component of the taught Postgraduate Masters Module. It forms a fixed part of the overall assessment for the Masters award and has a rating of 60 SCQF Level 11 credits. Students can only progress to the Masters having successfully completed the core module ‘Research in Medical Education’. The executive summary from the research proposal will then be used to determine appropriate scope and substance for the Masters and to allocate a supervisor
