MFA Art Society and Publics

B. D. Owens

B. D Owens is presenting two works: Tainted Luck and Another Impasse Tainted Luck is a multi-disciplinary installation with interactive elements, including a roaming scratch card vendor performance, a live Twitter feed and a sound work. It raises questions in relation to the binary doctrines of winners & losers, lucky & unlucky and finding & losing. In addition, this work encourages conversation and language play. In our “Global Village” (Marshal McLuhan), there are many intersecting languages and cultures that shape and influence each other. As a result, familiar Anglophone phrases can be lost in translation, yet new meanings can be found. Another Impasse is a sculptural concrete poem, which examines the perennial binary condition of ‘the Other’.
