Main Library is one of 4 library sites operated by the Library & Learning Centre (LLC).
Location and Access
The Main Library has an access control system with four security gates regulating both entry and exit. Everyone visiting the building is required to scan a current membership or ID card for access.
Staff and students from the University of Dundee should open the gates using their UoD ID card or barcode tile generated on the University of Dundee app.
Other members of the Library should open the gates using the barcode on their LLC membership card.
All other potential members should complete the appropriate online application form in advance of a visit in person.
Family members of University of Dundee students and staff; and members of the public who have a valid reason to use our Main Library can also apply for a limited reference access pass.
The Main Library houses a wide range of electronic and printed books, journals, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, videos and numerous online databases (for licensing reasons some of these resources are only available to staff and students of this university), such as the innovative 'Material ConneXion' database, plus the online video database 'lynda.com'. For more information on resources please refer to our Subject Guides.
The Library has also acquired Resource Lists an online list of resources for students to use on their specific modules.
The Main Library is Wi-Fi enabled to allow wireless laptop access and has around 300 network PCs. We have five group study rooms which are bookable via the room booking page, plus 12 black and white/colour A3/A4 printing/copying and scanning machines. Main Library has a PC Internet Cafe and provides extensive opening hours during exam periods, as requested by University of Dundee students. The University also has 3 other libraries with silent and group study zones, wireless networking and IT Suites that students can access.
The University of Dundee has an enviable research reputation within Scotland, the UK and internationally and the Library supports this research by providing a wide array of resources in all disciplines for academic research staff and postgraduate students, to excel in their chosen fields. School and University research activities can be viewed online via the Discovery Research Portal.
