Location and Access
This Library is located on level 4 of the Matthew Building, 13 Perth Road, Dundee DD1 4HT. Access to the building is controlled by a proximity card secure entry system. If you are a member of staff or a student at the University of Dundee you should present your ID or matriculation card to DJCAD Reception (Monday - Friday 9.00am - 4.45pm) on your first visit to have it registered on the system.
All visitors should report to Reception to request admittance; this includes those members of the library who are not UoD staff or students. Outwith Reception opening hours, members of the library are advised to obtain a visitor pass from the Main Library, Smally's Wynd, Dundee DD1 4HN. We cannot guarantee access for other visitors.
The Duncan of Jordanstone Library houses a wide range of electronic and printed books, artists' books, journals, maps, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, videos and numerous online databases (for licensing reasons some of these resources are only available to staff and students of this university), such as the innovative 'Material ConneXion' database, plus the online video database 'lynda.com'. The Library has also acquired Reading Lists an online list of resources for students to use on their specific modules.
Did you know that former MSc Animation students Kieran Duncan, Stephanie Flynn and Tom Paxton used the DoJ Library to create the short animation film entitled 'Mitigating circumstances'?
The DoJ Library is Wi-Fi enabled to allow wireless laptop access and has 32 network PCs. You can easily find out where on campus computers are available in real-time by checking the IT Suites PC Availability live feed. We have three group study rooms which are bookable via the Library Room Booking page, plus 3 black and white/colour A3/A4 printing/copying and scanning machines, plus facilities for printing and copying onto acetates. There is a spiral binder for students to use. Within the Library there is additional help for students via the 'IT Service Desk' staffed by IT staff and open during library opening times. The University also has 4 other libraries with silent and group study zones, wireless networking and IT Suites that students can access, plus the Main Library has a PC Internet Cafe and provides extensive opening hours during exam periods, as requested by University of Dundee students.
The School of Art and Design has an enviable research reputation within Scotland, the UK and internationally and the Duncan of Jordanstone Library supports this research by providing a wide array of resources in the Art and Media, Design, Communication Design and Architecture disciplines for academic research staff and postgraduate students, to excel in their chosen fields. Access for Mobility Impaired Users
Access is by a door to the right hand side of the Matthew Building, main front entrance, on Perth Road. Please use the waist height "Assisted touch here door" pad button. The lifts are located through the blue swipe doors and to the right hand side, go to level 4 and exit right, for the DoJ Library entrance door. For disabled toilet facilities - exit left from the DoJ Library, go through push button doors, turn left, go through another push button door (marked above as Crawford) and across the bridge link to the Crawford Building, go through another push button door, the disabled toilet is straight ahead in Room 402.
