Literature Online contains the full text of over 350,000 works of poetry, drama and prose in English, stretching back to the 8th century and through to the present day, presenting the first authorized edition of any given literary work, and preserving the spelling and punctuation of the copy text. Works can be found and explored in a variety of ways, by author, period, and genre, and can be searched in detailed mode to uncover texts from particular literary movements, or by authors of a particular ethnicity.

LION also contains a large collection of key critical and reference works to support literary studies, including titles such as the Encyclopedia of African Literature, the Routledge Companion to Science Fiction, and numerous Cambridge Companions to literature. These are supported by Author biographies and Bibliographies.

LION links closely with other resources held by the Library, particularly the MLA international Bibliography, to help locate additional critical work held in full text journals at the University of Dundee.

There is a detailed guide to Literature Online supplied by ProQuest, providing a range of search tips, and links to webinars on Literature Online.
