The UK Data service aims to provide detailed social, economic and population data for the UK, including census data and government surveys, along with qualitative data such as diaries, interviews and tweets. Over 5,000 large datasets are included, many being deposited by University researchers.
The collections can be cross searched by keyword, helping to reveal the full extent of the resources covered. Some of the key data available includes:
- UK government General Household surveys
- British Crime survey
- Health surveys
- National Child Development Study
- Census data 1971 to 2011
- European Social Survey
- Some 400 qualitative datasets such as in-depth interview transcripts, answers to open-ended survey questions, and audio-visual recordings.
Registering will allow you to download data. The site has guidance sections including ‘Using data’ with advice and support available. There is also a growing collection of useful video tutorials, with ‘how to’ demonstrations, and guides to analysis:
