Where and what are you currently studying?
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Graphic Design
What are you working on at the Library & Learning Centre?
Establishing a creative workspace in the Main Library, to provide students with more creative forms of studying a place to work that better meets their needs and to encourage all students to get more creative. The new space, named CreateSpace, is something I have been working on for the last 6 weeks. I have created a brand identity and began to promote and design the future space, identifying which materials and equipment are required to assist students best and planning the ideal layout. The next stage is showing what the space will look like and specifying exact makes, models and quantities of the new resources.
What have you learnt from your experience at the LLC?
I have learned that 6 weeks can really fly by! I have been working hard and there is still much to do, however, I am very excited to see where the project leads. I have learned that it is good to be ambitious but remember that well-executed projects take longer than expected. I have also learned how enthusiastic the LLC is about adapting to accommodate creative students better in the library and inspire creativity in all students; its motivation to set-up this forward-thinking space for not just art and design but all forms of creativity is very encouraging for me. It has been wonderful to learn that creativity is being valued more each day in the University of Dundee and I am glad that the LLC is leading the way and that I have had a chance to a part of that.
What are your plans for the future?
I would love to continue to assist in the creation of CreateSpace. If, after graduating, I remain in Dundee, it would be great to remain involved in a project which I am so passionate about. I truly believe that this space can benefit students and am very excited to see it come to fruition and be put to good use in the future. There is still a lot more to do to make this idea a reality – I wish that the 6 weeks did not pass so fast so I could have done more!
