PhD Title:
Necessity and Legitimacy of Penalty Enhancement Hate Crime Laws: A study of both the victims’ perspective and those of society at large.

The primary aim of my research is to examine the justification behind Hate Crime legislations that creates enhanced penalties and whether it is desirable to treat Hate Crime as a separate class of crime. This research will document the need and legitimacy of Hate Crime laws and its impact on the victims and to society at large, by militating together the harm caused to the victims and burden on perpetrators caused by enhanced penalties.

I intend to further explore the real impact of Hate crime laws prevalent in society by analysing its development so far in combating the proliferation of bias motivated crimes in order to ascertain its justifiability in the criminal justice system.
