Prof. Colin Reid has been appointed to the independent review group established by Scottish Ministers to review the management of grouse moors.
In announcing the review the Environment Secretary, Roseanna Cunningham, said:
"This new group will look at what we can do to balance our commitment to tackling wildlife crime with grouse moor management practices, so it continues to contribute to our rural economy, while being sustainable and compliant with the law."
Among other things, the group, led by Dundee Professor Emeritus Alan Werritty, will look at the environmental impact of practices such as muirburn, the use of medicated grit and culls of mountain hares and examine the option of licensing grouse shooting businesses.
Prof. Reid has written widely on nature conservation law and is Convener of the Legislation, Regulation and Guidance Group of the Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime in Scotland.
