Annual visit to the Burn House

On 26-28 January, the Dundee Law School’s LLM students attended their annual reading party at the Burn House, Angus. The September intake travelled on Friday, and stayed till Saturday, when they were joined by the January intake. On Saturday both cohorts spent some time discussing their dissertations, and getting to know each other; in the evening there was a ceilidh, which was much enjoyed. New Lecturer Dr Sufyan Droubi

Dr Sufyan Droubi has been appointed as a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Law within the School of Social Sciences. Previously, Sufyan was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of São Paulo and at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Essex. His doctoral thesis examined resistance to mandatory resolutions of the UN Security Council, which was published as a monograph in 2014 (Routledge). Brexit Continues

Professors Alan Page and Colin Reid have been continuing their engagement with the Brexit process.  In relation to the UK Government, Prof Page has recently been involved in meetings with the Cabinet Office and Prof Reid with DEFRA to discuss various aspects of the Brexit process and future governance arrangements.  At Holyrood, Prof Page’s evidence has been heavily relied on in the report of the Finance and Constitution Committee refusing (at this stage) to give legislative consent for the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill at Westminster.  Prof Reid meanwhile has submitted evidence to,...

New Research Assistant

Sean Whittaker has been appointed as a research assistant within the School of Social Sciences. A graduate of the University of Dundee's LLB in Scots Law and LLM in Environmental Law programmes, Sean has successfully defended his doctoral thesis at University College Cork and has published his work in Transnational Environmental Law. Sean will be working with Professor Colin Reid and Dr Jonathan Mendel in an Economic and Social Research Council funded project to evaluate the impact of the access to environmental information regime in Scotland through examining its use in pract...
