LLB in Law with Languages
The School of Law offers two Law with Languages programmes: the LLB in Scots Law with Languages and the LLB in English Law with Languages. Each programme includes all of the law modules required for professional qualification (in Scotland for the Scots stream, and in England and Wales or Northern Ireland for the English stream), plus study of one "practical language" - Spanish, French or German. The programmes are available as both Honours and non-Honours degree programmes. A distinctive feature of the law with languages provision at Dundee is its emphasis in the language element on personal and professional transferable communications skills and on intercultural awareness. The aim is to prepare students for deployment of their chosen language in international business, legal or governmental settings.
The Honours programme offers students the opportunity in their third year of studying law abroad in their practical language of choice under the European Union's ERASMUS exchange scheme. The School has partnerships with universities at Cergy-Pontoise, University of Toulouse (Université de Toulouse I Sciences Sociales), and Grenoble in France, Granada in Spain, and the University of Passau in Germany.
The exchange period, which may be a full academic year or a single semester, is fully integrated with the remainder of the degree programme at Dundee so that there is no need for a Law with Languages student who has been on exchange to undertake an extra year or semester of study.
