Available distribution list types

The following distribution lists are available:

 

Office 365 Public Distribution Groups

Used for internal email addresses only

Visible to all students and staff in the Global Address List

Mail delivery can be restricted and moderated

Created and managed by users

Sending to a public group counts as one message in your personal 24-hour message limit of 1500 messages.

Examples

University only lists, for example, departmental lists, student societies, project teams.

Outlook and Outlook Web App Personal Contact Groups

Used for internal and external email addresses

Can be shared with others within Office 365

Suitable for less than 500 members

Sending to a personal contact group counts as one message for each member against your personal 24-hour message limit of 1500 messages.

Examples

Smaller groups that contain members outside the University, e.g. project groups, external collaborators

Campaign Monitor 

Used for internal and external email addresses

Members can subscribe and unsubscribe themselves

Members cannot reply to the list

Available on request only

Auto-generated Office 365 Public Groups

Internal email addresses only

Created and managed by IT based on information from HR and Registry

Sending to these lists cannot be restricted or moderated

Examples

Lists related to staff and student structures and teaching, e.g. modules, courses, school, college, directorates, student type, staff type.
