You'll need our app

Gym sessions, exercise classes, the swimming pool and the strength performance centre can be booked directly from your smartphone via the our App. You can also view up to date timetable information as well as useful news and information.


Once downloaded you will need to request a password reset which will be sent to the email we have for you on the system. This email has to match precisely and once reset you can book sessions up to three days in advance and cancel up to an hour before, so as to not incur a no-show fee. 

Seniors and Active Living

We have nearly 20 years of experience in creating accessible activity programmes. Our staff are highly trained and have the expertise and knowledge to meet your needs. Whether you are a regular gym goer, new to fitness or want to be healthier, our vibrant programmes can help you.

Why exercise is important

Adults who do regular exercise have lower risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and some cancers. Exercise can also boost self-esteem, mood, quality of sleep and energy levels. It reduces your risk of developing stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It can also be fun and sociable.

Before starting any new activity or if there has been a recent change in your medical status, we advise you to review your health. You can do this by reading and answering our Seniors physical activity readiness questionnaire?. Any concerns you have about your health should be discussed with your GP beforehand.

Our varied Active Living exercise programmes gives you a choice of fun and sociable opportunities. These include exercise classes, walking football and swimming. Find out what is available on our Active Living Timetable.

Available options

Seniors membership

Our Seniors membership packages are open to anyone over 60 who does not have any pre-existing long term medical condition. This membership can give you access to more choices of sport and exercise including our Flagship exercise programme.

Active Living

Our Active Living membership exists for those exercisers who manage chronic medical conditions. Access to this membership is by referral only. If you would like more information about this membership please contact our Active Living Coordinator, Hazel Ednie or call +44(0)1382 385177.

If you're signing up for a Seniors membership you'll need to complete our physical activity readiness questionnaire? and bring this along with your membership form.

Direct debit

To set up a direct debit, please complete a membership form and direct debit mandate at ISE reception. There will be a small charge to pay, this covers your membership subscription until the first direct debit is taken from your account.

  • You need to have a UK bank account that is able to accept direct debit payments.
  • Payments are taken on the fifth (or next working day) of each month.
  • You must have the funds available in your account to make your payments. If you do not, you will still be liable to make payment by cash or card at ISE reception, you may also be charged by your bank for a direct debit default. Access to the Institute will not be permitted until payment is made.
  • If you default on your direct debit payment you will have until 15th of that month to make the outstanding payment to ISE reception. If payment is not received by the 15th your membership will be cancelled immediately and you won’t be able to sign up to future direct debit memberships, you will also be charged a £25 re-joining fee when signing up to any membership in future.
  • Your membership and payment will continue until your membership is cancelled.
  • Payments cannot be rolled over and collected in subsequent months.

Cancellation Period

There is a one month cancellation period for memberships paid by direct debit instalments. Please send an email to request cancellation of your membership.
