Profile

My doctorate is in the interdisciplinary field of historical archaeology with research interests in the African Diaspora, culinary studies, and plantation studies. My research and teaching interests overlap in American studies and the history of the Atlantic World. More recently, I was a recipient of the 2016-2017 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow researching black resistance via radical education practices in 19th century Ohio. Along with my academic work, I and am also a culinary consultant and historian for the BBC and a variety of festivals with a focus on African diasporic foodways.
