Visit to Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre for History students
Published on Tue 10 Mar 2020
Undergraduate students taking a module on Scottish Highland history visited Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre recently.
The Battle of Culloden was the final stage of the Jacobite rising of 1745. The Visitor Centre documents the Jacobite risings from both the Jacobite and Hanoverian perspectives and includes a 360 degree re-enactment film of the Battle. The aftermath of the battle and the subsequent pacification of the Highlands also gave the students much to consider.
The photos below are the group, the bagpipes, which were called ‘instruments of war’ and banned after the battle and the mounds of grass, which are mass graves of those killed during the battle, marked by a single gravestone.
