There are no formal classes on this module. You will have at least twelve contact hours across the semester to discuss a major work of historiography with your supervisor.

Module Aims

The aims of this module are

  • to provide students with maximum choice and flexibility in their option choice, drawing in full on the specialisms offered by members of the History staff
  • to examine some of the key theoretical arguments
  • to train students in conceptualisation and historical analyses
  • to enable students to critically identify and interpret primary and secondary sources

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will have:

  • acquired an understanding of main themes of research and current cutting edge approaches and themes
  • developed the ability to define and conduct independent research projects in history
  • an awareness of the main theoretical approaches to relevant fields of history
