University of Dundee, Tower Building, Baxter Suite 1.36 Add to Calendar Organiser: Humanities Society
A talk by Dr Alison McCall for LGBT History Month, presented by the Feminist Society, the History Society, the LGBT Society and the School of Humanities at the University of Dundee.
Elizabeth ("Bessie") Craigmyle (1863-1933) was a child prodigy who struggled with the restricted opportunities available to women. When she met Margaret Dale (1861-1887), who planned to study medicine, Bessie not only saw glorious possibilities of a career open up, she also fell deeply in love. Sadly for Bessie, her love for Maggie was to prove unrequited. However, it found its expression in many poems written and published during the 1880s.
The talk will be preceeded by a wine and nibbles reception in the Baxter Suite from 5pm.
