Connect to the University's wired (via ethernet cable) network on Windows

For anyone not using a Staff Windows Desktop (a non-managed device), including students in accommodation. If you're using a managed desktop, you don't need to follow this connection guidance as your device has been configured for you

Enable Wired AutoConfig
Click the Start button and type services.msc into the search box
Locate and right-click on the service called Wired AutoConfig
Click on Properties then select the Startup Type Automatic and press OK
Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect
Setup 802.1X authentication
Click the Start button and type Network and Sharing Center into the search box
Click on Change adapter settings
Right-click on your network adapter, usually called Local Area Connection and select Properties
Click on the Authentication tab and select the option for IEEE 802.1X authentication
Choose the network authentication method Microsoft:Protected EAP (PEAP) from the drop-down
Click Settings (next to the network authentication method drop-down)
Scroll down the Trusted Root Certification Authorities: list and tick QuoVadis Root CA 2
Click on Configure and ensure the Automatically use my Windows log-on name and password checkbox is clear before clicking OK
Click on Additional Settings in the Ethernet Properties window
Tick Specify authentication mode and select User credentials from the drop-down list
Click Save to the right of the drop-down box
Now plug the ethernet cable into your computer
A Windows Security dialog box should pop-up. Enter your University password and full username (including @dundee.ac.uk) then click OK.
If you have a username that doesn’t include your ID number (students) or end with a number (staff), make sure you enter it correctly.
