Profile picture of Torin Forbes

Turas is a brand identity and packaging for a travelling small batch distiller, firmly aimed at the natural explorers amongst us. Hidden gem whiskies, distilled at various sites across Scotland, partnering with local communities and leading architects to leave a legacy, as well as producing a world class spirit. The work includes bottle design as well as labelling, iconography and campaign concepts. For D&AD I worked on 'Refreshing Change' which is an initiative for the global brewer Heineken. It aims to spark collaboration and fresh thinking to achieve change for the better around the world. The concepts range from the 'Fresh Festival' for leading thinkers to collaborate and bring ideas to life, through to 'Think Tanks' for young talent, located at universities across the globe. The concepts included copywriting, campaign ideas, social media and merchandising. For ISTD I worked on a modern interpretation of john Buchan's 'The Thirty Nine Steps'. Through research into Buchan's life, his work as a journalist for the Times newspaper during the First World War influenced my grids and typography. I also used the novel itself to influence the 'diary' format of the book itself. The agent Scudder is killed in the first chapter and his diary drives the protagonist Richard Hannay on his adventure and provides the key to the conclusion. Morse Code, the secret language of spies also features in the pages as graphic detailing as well as hidden messages, in keeping with the story.
