About

Portrait of Sophie Stevens-Lynch

Inspiration came from the time I spent in America over the summer of 2022. A trip to New jersey and New York allowed me to meet people and form friendships with people I had never met before. The focus of my project is to convey the feeling of a city and my own memories. In this time I was able to immerse myself into the busy and bustling the warmth, fast, loud and cramped streets, where I became a tourist and felt like a local within a matter of days. The same city where I also experienced a calming, light and poetic side to the city. The focus of my project is not only to convey my own experiences of a new city but the feelings that come along side memories. What was once my daily life is now all memories to be relived through conversation. With two collections showing different sides to the city, one being the calm nature and other a more urban and lived in side. The warmth and generosity I felt made me want to create this project about my time spent in America. I want my project to feel like a memoir, a poem, and reflection to the past. As a fashion-based project, I used a number of materials to create samples, collages, paper design work, and drawings to explore my ideas and feelings behind my project. Through the use of many different types of printing processes and experimentations I hope to of achieved the impact a city can have on a person, not only reflecting my own memories but also triggering memories of your own.
