About

Profile photo of PJ Fairweather

I want to tell stories and always have. That goal has always been something that’s shaped my life and in turn the life I live shapes the stories I desire to tell. I make sense of the events big and small that are part of the tapestry that is my twenty’s though stories that take those feelings, themes, etc and blow them up into tales about Scottish folk lore, Zombies and very pointy looking nuns that drink blood. Gothic horrors been big for me recently (see the work of Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola).

I’m invested in using new tools and materials to tell these stories with an example being Madeline was Biting the water colour painted comic that’s the centre piece of my degree show.

I want to tell stories till the day I die, I want to make comics for the rest of my life, I want to live my life and let it shape the art that makes me want to thrive.

Madeline was Biting cover. (watercolour and pencils)

Inside a frame decorated with flours stands Theodore and Madeline, The former a man with a raggedy beard the latter a woman with the right side of her face peeled off showing exposed skull, Theodore holds a Skull in his hand. Madeline standing above him holds his head in her hands. At the top of the page hangs the title.

This is the cover for my comic Madeline was Biting. The comic explores the in’s and out’s of co-dependency with a dark fantasy edge all cast in the shadow of gothic cathedrals. Madeline was Biting logo designed by Graphic design graduate Lewis Elks

Beat to beat (coloured pencils)

6 panels portraying the artist a person with glasses read hair and a baggy green jumper putting on a record to listen to.

Part of the drawing days weekly briefs this piece was a exploration of beat by beat movements and an attempt to refamiliarize myself with pencils.

Excerpt from Madeline was Biting (water colours)

The figure Madeline holds her head in her hands before flashing back into a memory of singing on a balcony, Theodore walks up behind her taking her into his arms she is comforted before the two go inside. Returning from the flashback Madeline is shocked.

A page from Madeline was Biting, this page is some of what I feel is the best character acting in the comic with the focus being on the intimate movements.
