Bold print does have a place in your capsule wardrobe.

I have focused on creating my own take on a fashion trend, clashing prints. I always enjoy putting together outfits for an event or even simply for a boring Monday morning. Bold prints are constant in my wardrobe, these inspired me to design for fashion. I began researching classic resources for print design and Botanical Prints were a common thread. Most of the prints I was seeing were delicate and pictorial prints.

Through drawing I focused mainly on textures and shapes, I looked at plants that had a striking ‘personality’ like the Cactus, taking elements of its spikey exterior. I developed my drawings into a bank of mark making, eventually taking elements of the grid like architecture of the green house buildings, creating a contrast between the organic shapes and the graphic lines.

I worked a lot with collage throughout my project, through paper design work I expanded on my drawing bringing together shapes and textures creating different compositions to later scan into Photoshop. My monochromatic colours are what make my prints different from typical botanical prints, I added pops of colour to differentiate each collection. I have created four strong mood boards that will translate my different collections.

With plain, one colour, staple garments at the fore front of fashion today I want to show that bold print does have a place in a capsule wardrobe and it can be worn as an everyday piece and not just as a one off, striking print is the key to a confident outfit.
