Graphic Design BDes (Hons)

I've taken on three individual briefs where each one has allowed me to endure new challenges and gain new skills, allowing me to find a style and define my persona.

The projects presented below are three major briefs I have accomplished over the course of my final year studying Graphic Design.

The first project brief was for the Hatch Agency - creating an alcoholic spirit brand based on a country/location of my choice. This was an exciting project to get stuck into, allowing for research into areas that I hadn't got the chance to seek previously. Iceland was a challenging topic to base my drink around, however, the mountains and volcanoes struck me lucky as my brand is named after one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. With bold colours and exciting patterns created, this was sure to bring out the heat in Iceland.

ISTD was the second brief. I managed to portray a reimagined version of the famous novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. The brief was great in allowing a lot of freedom to choose the source material, and although it was the larger of the three projects, it allowed me to become more careful in my choices as a designer and focused on the minor details for being a large publication.

Lastly, I had come up with a personal brief to focus on, which described the request to design a lookbook for a local plant shop. As an avid lover of plants, this was my chance to show what I could achieve. I created a brand and a first-edition lookbook to encourage consumers to adopt a plant into their homes.

Hekla Vodka

Brown paper packaged bottle with wax seal. Packaging reads "Hekla Icelandic Vodka", mirrored beneath and has a sky blue background.

Hekla Vodka - Packaged to promote the alcohol brand, adding an element of surprise for the consumer as to what their bottle may look like underneath. No two bottles alike.

Urban Botanics Lookbook

Image split into quarters, top left shows front and back cover of book, top right shows an example on an inside page, bottom left shows example of inside page, and bottom right also shows example of inside page of the publication.

Creating the personal brief, I wanted to show my knowledge and expertise in the field of botanics and this project shows my expressive freedom as I allow the lookbook to be a fun and exciting subject to look through. I found this solidified my skills and knowledge of my course and allowed me to feel satisfied with what I have been learning over the course of the past 3 years.

ISTD - Open | Close

Layout of several book covers, little woman reimagined, red to pink tones and a layered and cut out effect added to female silhouettes.

Open | Close brief allowed a creative freedom with typographic structure and restrictions I had not been used to before. It challenged me in many ways and yet allowed me to develop as a designer to pay attention to small details. It made me think about the text and what the context surrounding it meant to visually piece together a publication in my own reimagined way.
