“Someone Will Remember Us” explores personal concepts of nostalgia and memory, as well as the loss that accompanies it. Nostalgia is a feeling that is experienced widely, although the emotion itself is wholly unique to an individual, making the task of conveying it even more difficult. My own experience of Nostalgia is a comforting, safe feeling, that brings you back to different points in your life. Although this feeling tends to be bittersweet as there is an understanding that these moments can never be experienced again. The loss of a specific moment, place or person, combined with a longing to return embodies Nostalgia. Reminiscing on the past to avoid the present. Romanticising moments that are out with our reach.

The inspiration for this project stems from vivid memories of my late mother, clear memories of her curled up on the couch, smoking in the conservatory of my childhood home. Looking at the imagery of smoke and beams of light to convey the bittersweet atmosphere of personal nostalgia and impermanence. Using the fading, billowing imagery of smoke to express my own experience with the changing nature of loss, grief, acceptance and of course nostalgia and memory.

Composed of expressive mark making to convey the imagery of smoke as well as considered application of colour to create a mood reflective of the topic. To be applied within a wearable fashion context.
