The design for the reimagined production of Sweeney Todd at the Dundee City Quay draws inspiration from the human bodies visceral response to the music of the play. The set will be designed to reflect the emotional and physical impact of the story on both the characters and the audience, creating an experience that takes the audience on a linear journey from start to finish. Innovative stage design will enable smooth transitions between stages, resulting in a visually captivating and dynamic experience for the audience as they follow the story.
The use of lighting and saturation of red within the sets will play a crucial role in building tension and anticipation throughout the play, culminating in the gory climax of the story. The use of dramatic lighting will create a sense of unease and foreboding, while the gradual increase in the saturation of red throughout the sets will create a sense of impending doom.
