About

Profile picture for Eleanor McGavin

Within a moment of transition, and questioning the human experience in this state, a series of work has emerged which investigates these moments.  Viewing all phenomena as transient and impermanent, do objects of art enable us to make sense of the surrounding world and its impermanence?  Having experienced life and transitions within the world, culturally, socially, economically, as in, all aspect of being in an ever-changing world, the work in this show seeks to question this transience and impermanence.  Accompanying these questions what emerged were echoes of connection which revealed a state of being, of experiencing being truly human.  The smell of the earth in Summer after rainfall, the haze of light on the horizon of the sea shimmering, the memory of the touch of a loved one long departed, a glaze of dew on a spider’s web caught in the morning sunlight.   These observations that occurred, when the mind is untethered from usual duties,  led to objects which emerged from an exploration into what exists within the space between a conscious and subconscious state of being.  Beyond the physicality of an object, do there exist other hidden aspects?  Working within a multi-disciplinary practice the work explores seeking beauty in impermanence and within reverie.
