"Consumable Consumerism" , the term I came up with to guide my studio practice, it encapsulates my observations and material response of the world we live in.
About
My work features a combination of found littered objects, artist intervention, sculpture, installation and painting, formed through the lens of practicing as a McArtist.
I've taken inspiration from the theory of McDonaldization, where corporations like McDonalds frame their ethos' as being positive, comfortable and easy experience for their consumers when in actual fact the positivity, comfort and ease is beneficial to improving the companies efficiency and revenue. It's not for us, it's for them. Through researching McDonaldization, I found parallels within artistic creation and exhibiting art. Thinking about the idea that artists make and display art for their viewers where in reality only benefit from it because like McDonalds, it fuels a sense of entitlement.
Relating this to my work this year, the art in my degree show will be a space that allows the viewer to observe, interpret and decide what it means for themselves under the expressed themes of environmentalism and consumerism.
