About

Profile photo of Daisy Thomas

Hello there!

My name is D. Pryke Thomas and I am an artist, illustrator and maker born and raised on the Scottish coastline. My main goal in creating art is to make something that I would like to see exist and that I would enjoy making. If other people like my work that makes me very happy, but at the end of the day I'm creating primarily for myself.
I like to learn different crafts and believe in the value of working with your hands, as well as the importance of respecting nature. It’s good to be observant and to try to be interested in everything.

My work is inspired by the things I love - books new and old, stories I read as a child, ancient history, fashion, biology, comics, folklore… the list goes on. Drawing has always been, and continues to be, my way of interpreting the world showing my love for something.

I think that life shouldn't be taken too seriously and that no one is too old to read children's books.

Gambling Hans

A digital mockup of a hardback picture book. On the left is a red cover with the torso of a yellow figure ringed by yellow fruit. On the right is an open spread with black and white line illustrations. On one page is a character dressed as a king looking up, seated at a table surrounded by coins. In the other a figure in a dark cloak sitting in a tall fruit tree.

A fully illustrated adaption of one of the Grimms’ lesser-known tales ‘Gambling Hans’. (ink pen and digital colour)

The Magdalen Magazine

Three digital mockups of white magazine spreads with black text on a blue background. On the left is a page with the tarot card The Fool in yellow, blue and red. In the middle a double page spread with red drawings of rabbits and gyoza dumpling ingredients. On the right is a page with a yellow figure with dreadlocks wearing a plaid skirt and blazer.

Three editorial illustrations and page designs for the student magazine 'The Magdalen'. (ink pen, brush pen, pencil and digital colour)

Carved Stone Ball Etchings

Three square black line etchings of stone balls carved with knobs printed on cream textured paper. One ball is plain, one has many small knobs and the third has spirals carved into it.

A series of etchings of Carved Stone Balls based on research drawings done in the National Museums Scotland stores (over 400 of these Neolithic artefacts are known and they are found almost exclusively in Scotland).
