Codi Coller
A series of large semi-abstract paintings that follow the gradual change of light and colour in the evening sky.
About
Landscape and nature have always had a huge influence on my work. Over the last few years, I have set out on walks in nature as a source of inspiration. Throughout these walks I was always drawn to the sky and it’s changing colours and forms. I noticed that the subtle changes in colour would completely change the mood and atmosphere of a place. I set out to recreate these variations of colour using oil paint with the hope of creating not only a picture, but an experience to the viewer.
Through my paintings I aim to capture a sense of place and time. I have tackled this subject with a more subtle approach, capturing the slow change in colour across the last few ours of light in the evening sky. The work of abstract expressionist painters has had a profound impact on my work. Painters such as Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt and Clyfford Still have been a huge source of inspiration for me. My work does not attempt to capture a completely accurate depiction of the natural landscape. Instead, it aims to recreate the mood and feel of a place with the use of colour and scale.
