After observing the amount of glass waste that I discovered whilst walking around Dundee, I started to think about ways glass could be repurposed outwith the traditional recycling process. Glass is 100% recyclable but is often not recycled, ending up as litter or in landfill. Broken glass in the environment is dangerous towards people and animals, along with posing a risk towards property. I researched different materials that glass can be combined with and created various glass-based material samples over the past eight months.

I was keen to create a product made from found glass, with a lot of the material used during the experimenting process and the final design being glass that I have collected when out walking, along with friends and family donating their glass recycling.

I created textured glass panels by tack fusing glass chunks in the kiln, first breaking up the bottles before laying them out in the desired shape. These panels were then set into a concrete base, made up of cement, glass chunks and glass powder, then secured in place with cement.

A lamp made from a concrete base and glass panels, it is rectangular in shape. Beside the lamp is a brick with two wine bottles set on top of it.
