About

Callum_Arthur_ profile

As a designer, I am constantly exploring the dynamic interaction between print and digital media, seeking to discover new and exciting ways to blend these two mediums to create something greater than the sum of their parts. I am passionate about using my craft to amplify stories that need to be heard, and to bring attention to social and political issues that require our collective attention. Through my work, I strive to create designs that not only captivate and inspire but also make a positive impact on the world around us. By infusing my creations with meaning and purpose, I seek to bridge the gap between aesthetics and ethics.

ISTD - 1984 by George Orwell

The 1984 publication reimagines the classic dystopian novel, providing readers with a compelling exploration of censorship across different time periods and regions. The book takes a journey through the past, present, and future, examining how censorship has evolved and impacted societies around the world. Historical examples of Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany are used to demonstrate how censorship has been utilized as a tool of oppression and control. The book then shifts its focus to modern-day China, investigating how the government's tight control over the internet has enabled them to maintain their hold on power. The United States is also examined, with a particular emphasis on the issue of censorship in social media. The book poses challenging questions about the balance between freedom of speech and protecting vulnerable groups, while also exploring how social media companies have struggled to find solutions that satisfy everyone. Throughout the reimagining of 1984, readers are encouraged to consider their own views on censorship, freedom of speech, and the role of government in regulating information. By offering a global perspective and drawing on a range of examples, the book provides a nuanced and thought-provoking exploration of a topic that remains relevant and significant in today's world.

ISTD - 1984 - Book One - Censorship and Degeneracy

Shows a spread of my newspaper publication set against a red background. The title reads 'Entartete Kunst' meaning 'Degenerate Art'. The spread features a quote, which when translated to English reads 'Take it seriously. It's worth it'.

This newspaper is an insert found within my publication of 1984. It details the censorship and atrocities which occurred under the regimes of Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler.

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament - Posters

This image shows two posters, one with Vladimir Putin superimposed over a silhouette of the devil, the title reads, in broken text - Abolish All Nuclear Weapons. The other poster features an illustration of a man with a gun to his head - the text reads the same as before, however with a warning label - stating 'Nuclear Weapons Are Bad For Your Health'.

The CND poster series offers a striking and thought-provoking look at the dangers of nuclear war, using powerful imagery to convey the risks to viewers. The posters feature a range of symbols and icons with connotations of negative health effects, evil and risk, creating a sense of urgency and fear about the potential consequences of a nuclear conflict. One poster features an image of the devil, emphasizing the catastrophic and almost apocalyptic implications of nuclear war, superimposed over this is an image of Putin, highlighting the dangerous and aggressive actions of some world leaders that could lead to a nuclear conflict. An illustration of a man playing Russian roulette provides a stark reminder of the extreme risk and potential for devastating consequences. Through these posters, the campaign hopes to raise awareness of the dangers of nuclear weapons and the importance of disarmament. The striking images and emotive messaging aim to engage viewers and inspire action, encouraging people to speak out against nuclear weapons and work towards a more peaceful future.

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament - Promotional Material Pack

A group of promotional material for my disarmament campaign, it features two poker chips, on with a peace symbol, the other with the nuclear symbol with a skull centred within it. it also has two sides of a Joker playing card, featuring an illustration of Putin as a jester, the reverse of it reads 'NO NUKES'. Lastly there is an image from my nuclear war zine. It features a circle of nuclear weapons, the caption reads 'Nuclear War is loading... Please wait'.

This is a small promotional material pack made, which would be handed out to the public. it features a 'Joker/Putin' playing card, a poker chip and a zine which contains illustrations, imagery and infographics on the possibilities of nuclear war.

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament - Zine

The zine features a collection of imagery and words inspired by the idea of nuclear war, and the severe danger which surrounds the topic. I feel like not many, especially world leaders, take the issue seriously, otherwise they would agree to abolish the weapons, therefore this zine is designed to inform as well as to scare the reader, to provoke them to create the change that we need to see, if we want to see a future.
