About

Portrait of Bibiana Fillnerova

As a concept artist I like to seek new challenges. Even though I enjoy sinking into my own world when creating, most of my favourite projects have been collaborative. I enjoy working with other disciplines and I find scientific art quite fascinating.
I have been a part of a virtual anatomy project where I worked with students from other departments like programming and medicine and I found it very rewarding. This path has led me into researching connections between art and science. I wrote my dissertation on benefits of comics for healthcare communication. Inspired by what I learnt, I have created a comic to summarize my findings.

As a lover of nature, plants, fungi and invertebrates are a constant inspiration for my work. I keep coming back to lichens that never stop amazing me. With my illustrations I would like to show people how beautiful these tiny organisms are and maybe inspire them to stop and observe the small things that are all around us.

One of my personal projects was co-creating costumes for a musical theatre show Urinetown. I had a lot of fun designing costumes, sourcing second had materials, altering and creating some of the pieces. Sewing is a skill not usually connected to animation, but I found the researching and designing parts transferable to any project.

For my final film I was part of the team working on Chaos, creating concept art and animation. My favourite part was animating the character Butterslug – butterfly and partly sea slug!
