About

The first work is the cover of my publication, which comprises five different books. It is a reimagining of the Italian novel 'Uno, nessuno e centomila' by Luigi Pirandello. It illustrates the character's journey to self-discovery: from the first epiphany and dissolving into the thousands, through solitude, estrangement, madness and finally the realisation of life's meaning, the nothingness of existence, how we all are no one, thousand, but everything and nothing in the vastness of creation.

The second picture shows the branding for a grappa distillery, based in the heart of the Dolomites (Val Pesarina). Deeply rooted in the mountain and local culture, three different types of grappa (giovane, aromatica, stravecchia) have been designed to homage to these elements and the people who live in this region. Therefore, the types have been named after a skier, hiker and climber from this alpine valley. Named after the Rifugio De Gasperi, DEGA is about sharing adventure, experiences, and friendship.

Loose A3 sheet cover of the ISTD publication 'Uno, nessuno e centomila'

“Che fai?” (What are you doing?). The first chapter starts by asking a question, not only to the protagonist but to the reader himself. What are we all doing? What is our thrive in life? The beginning of the book already questions our entire existence. It perfectly summarises the doubt that breaches Moscarda’s illusion of reality. By questioning his look, he starts to question every detail of his existence. It is the beginning of the end of the one Moscarda. The realisation that his nose is not straight is only an ironic analogy of the multiple masks he wore his entire life for others. It’s the epiphany that will take him through a long journey of self-discovery. A journey that will take him through many different stages: solitude (book II - anomia), estrangement (book III - l'étranger), madness (book IV - Henri IV), and final self-realisation. Only at the end, the protagonist finally has no fears, no preoccupation. He is not afraid of death or life anymore. He dies each time and is born again without memories, alive and whole, not in himself, but in everything around him.

Hatch brief, branding for DEGA grappa

Hatch brief, branding for DEGA grappa

Originally a poor Northern Italian’s drink, grappa originated as a way of capturing every drop of fermentable sugar left in the precious grapes after winemaking. Most anciently called aquavite (latin for ‘water of life’), the name grappa was coined in the 19th from dialectal words such as grapa, which means grappolo, “bunch of grapes.” It is a spirit deeply rooted in the popular culture of Friuli Venezia Giulia. DEGA aims to rethink the way grappa has been distilled and shared over the past centuries. Usually produced in family-owned distilleries from ‘la bassa’ (the lowlands), grappa has been mostly a key beverage of the mountain communities. Many stories and adventures have been shared in the Carnic dolomites, by a warm fireplace, playing cards and sipping a glass of homemade grappa. Each grappa homages the people who made our community and lived the Dolomites: climbing, hiking and skiing have always been key activities of our valley. We all grew up mastering these sports and they became a vital part of our lives. Each DEGA grappa is linked to these three activities, the people who made them known outside of our valley, and their link with nature.
