Maddie Talbert

Illustration BDes (Hons)

I am an illustrator from Massachusetts who enjoys combining digital and traditional media such as crochet or gouache to create dreamlike scenes.

In my work, I enjoy exploring a broad range of interests from children’s book illustration to editorial work to designing oracle cards. I enjoy working monochromatically as well as evoking a sense of playfulness through colour. My work often involves imagined, dreamlike scenarios and connecting to nature or a sense of home. No matter what the subject is, I love to tell stories through my work.

My process often combines digital and a variety of traditional media. I love the physicality of traditional media such as watercolour, gouache, ink, and even crochet at the start of a piece, and digital media allows me to add to the piece in exciting ways. I am always exploring different ways to combine the two together.

A stone path leads to three houses shaped like mushrooms. Bushes are in the foreground and a gradient in the background with smoke coming out of the chimneys.
