Pensionable Salary increases of more than 10%

Any increases to pensionable salary of more than 10% (whether temporary or permanent) will be queried by USS if the effective date of the award falls within 3 years of the member retiring.

If the award is deemed temporary, the member will not benefit from the increased pension contributions if they retire within 3 years of the effective date of the award. The increased salary will be factored into the 13 year calculation to determine final pensionable pay if the member does not retire within the 3 year period.

If the award is deemed permanent, and not in anticipation of retirement, the member will benefit from paying the increased pension contributions on the award.

If the award is deemed permanent and has been awarded in anticipation of retirement, the member will not benefit from paying the increased pension contributions on the award.
